On December 27th, 2022, Guy Madison East suddenly passed on. Guy was a dedicated Christian, affectionate spouse, dad, and grandparent.
He had a profound affection for the Lord and was devoted to adhering to the teachings of the Bible. He lived with honesty and always strived to assist others to do the same.
Guy was a family-oriented individual who was consistently there for his kids and grandchildren. He worked relentlessly to bless, motivate, and educate them.
In addition to being a caring husband and father, Guy was also a triathlete, beekeeper, expert craftsman, writer, pioneer, entrepreneur, mentor, volunteer, and scoutmaster.
He was a loyal friend to many and was recognized for his benevolence and generosity toward his companions, family, and colleagues. He motivated those around him to pursue excellence and did whatever he could to support them in achieving it.
We are profoundly saddened by Guy’s passing and extend our sympathies to his family and friends. We hope our prayers will bring them comfort during this challenging period.
We also grieve for the loss of Dean Young, a former Texas poet laureate, William Livingston Chair of Poetry for the University of Texas, and renowned educator, who passed away on August 23, 2022, at age 67.
Dean Young was a modern American poet who was influenced by the work of John Ashbery, Frank O’Hara, and Kenneth Koch, as well as the French Surrealist poets André Breton and Paul Éluard.
He earned his MFA from Indiana University and later became the William Livingston Chair of Poetry at the University of Texas at Austin. Dean Young was the author of numerous books, including Bender:
New and Selected Poems, Fall Higher, and The Art of Recklessness. He was honored with the Colorado Prize for Poetry for his work “Strike Anywhere”. He received fellowships from Stanford University, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
His work has been included in The Best American Poetry anthology multiple times, dating back to 1993. Dean Young served as the Poet Laureate for Texas in 2014. We offer our condolences to Dean Young’s family and friends.
