The pool attendant with whom Jerry Falwell Jr.’s wife, Becki Tilley, had a romance claimed that she approached him at a Miami hotel and promised intimate activities with her husband as a spectator before things became more serious.
The couple has openly discussed the incident that led to Jerry Falwell Jr. stepping down from Liberty University in 2020, over a year after it was revealed that Becki Falwell had a six-year affair with a former Miami pool attendant, Giancarlo Granda.
Giancarlo Granda’s upcoming book, Off the Deep End: Jerry and Becki Falwell and The Collapse of an Evangelical Dynasty, delves into the history of the relationship when Granda was a 20-year-old pool attendant. The school took legal action against him when Granda disclosed his relationship with Falwell Jr.’s wife.
A New Revelation by the Couple
The couple, who claimed to have moved beyond the drama together, shed new light on the affair’s circumstances and aftermath in a series of exclusive interviews with Vanity Fair.
She disclosed to Vanity Fair that she missed out on the college experience, and her curiosity ultimately led to the biggest regret of her life: the liaison with Giancarlo Granda, a 20-year-old pool attendant in Miami Beach.
Granda approached the couple while they were vacationing at the Fontainebleau hotel pool in March 2012 and ended up giving her his phone. This led to a series of romantic texts with Granda, as per the couple’s account to Vanity Fair.
Becki remarked, “I could talk to someone. ‘It’s that rush of hormones. Suddenly, a young, attractive man starts texting you and showing interest in you, and you think, Wow, this is good.’
Granda previously admitted to having an affair with Becki in front of Falwell Jr. to Reuters. Both Becki and Falwell Jr. denied his involvement, claiming that Granda was trying to blackmail them, which he has refuted in the past.
Granda texted Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman, saying, “I can tell you that everything will be answered in the book and Hulu documentary.” Granda did not immediately respond to People’s request for comment.
Becki claimed that while Falwell Jr. was scouting properties in South Florida for a business opportunity that Granda had proposed back in Miami, she and Granda had their first intimate encounter.
Becki decided to confess the affair to her husband that December, even though Falwell Jr.’s business ties with Granda continued until 2014.
Falwell Jr. stated that despite being aware of the romance, he proceeded with a business deal with Granda, investing $1.8 million in a hostel where Granda was also a partner.
According to Falwell Jr., Granda even apologized to him about the relationship, as stated in the magazine.
In the end, Becki revealed that she felt remorseful and opted to end their intimate relationship in 2014 after Granda got involved in a serious relationship.
The couple alleged that Granda continued to be a part of their lives even after Becki’s romance with him ended due to his business connections with Falwell Jr.
However, when that business partnership went sour, the Falwells began to worry.
When discussing the state of their marriage at the time they spoke with Vanity Fair, the couple expressed gratitude for being able to heal their relationship wounds.
Becki remarked, “We spend more time together than any other couple you will ever meet.” She added, “He forgave me, and Jesus teaches forgiveness,” stated Becki.
