Paniagua began encountering Delgado randomly shortly after. Occasionally, he would bump into her on the trails he frequented, and once, as he was leaving Panera Bread with a date, he unexpectedly encountered her.
Paniagua was unaware that Delgado had access to his “email and iCloud credentials as well as a key to his residence.” She also purchased a find-my-phone app to track him, but she didn’t take any action to interfere with his life until Paniagua started dating Hatcher. Paniagua was oblivious to her actions.
In June 2015, he sent Delgado an email to share the “wonderful news.” He was ecstatic that he could finally move on with his life. Paniagua and Hatcher were very active on each other’s social media platforms, and they even discussed establishing a wedding fund.
Delgado closely observed everything and discussed it obsessively with anyone who would listen.
One of these individuals was a woman named Crystal Cortes, who was 23 years old and faced personal and financial challenges. She agreed to Delgado’s plot to assassinate Hatcher after he provided her with $500 for the task. Subsequently, the two approached Kristopher Love, who was willing to assist them.
On September 2, someone “approached her [Hatcher] in the parking garage of Gables Park 17 [her apartment] and fired a shot into the back of her head,” as reported by Texas Monthly. When the police arrived at the scene, they initially noticed the absence of her Coach purse, and they immediately suspected an attempted theft.
After a period of time, Delgado reached out to Cortes and Love to confirm the completion of the act. The trio met, and Delgado departed with Hatcher’s Coach purse after they did. However, her freedom was short-lived.
What Happened to Brenda Delgado, Crystal Cortes, or Kristopher Love?
Due to the fact that Jose Ortiz had loaned his then-associate Delgado his black Jeep Cherokee, which Delgado had subsequently lent to Cortes and utilized for the execution of Hatcher’s murder, Jose Ortiz found himself inadvertently implicated in the murder of Hatcher.
Delgado had loaned the vehicle to Cortes, who then utilized it to carry out the murder. Ortiz contacted the authorities when police revealed shaky security footage showing a black Jeep Cherokee fleeing the scene. Ortiz sought to vindicate himself and provide the necessary information to the police.
As Delgado did not confess during the interrogation, the authorities opted to release her. Soon thereafter, they apprehended Cortes, and Love was also taken into custody.

The jury deliberated for a mere twenty minutes before finding Delgado guilty of first-degree murder. She is currently serving her sentence at the William P. Hobby Unit, a women’s correctional facility in Marlin, Texas. She received a life sentence with no possibility of parole.
Regarding Cortes and Love, Cortes received a reduced sentence of 35 years in prison in exchange for testifying against Delgado. Love received the same reduced sentence. She is serving her sentence at the Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville, Texas.
The prosecution also used Kristopher Love’s testimony to support their decision to sentence him to death. Prior to Hatcher’s murder, Love had “12 arrests involving six violent offences,” as the Texas Department of Criminal Justice reported.
