Who is Max Helm?
Max Helm, who was a member of the social fraternity Fiji (Phi Gamma Delta), faced public scrutiny after accusations of s*xual assault involving a minor came to light.
As a result, many began to question the fraternity’s values and practices.
Over time, it became evident that the Fiji fraternity held various unconventional and problematic beliefs.
It was uncovered that the fraternity had a troubling history, including racist elements, with pledges required to pledge allegiance to a “no Mexican” rule among other fraternity regulations.
Furthermore, the fraternity had a lengthy history of s*xual misconduct cases involving female members.
These distressing revelations came to the fore when Max Helm was accused of s*xually assaulting a 17-year-old student at the University of Nebraska Lincoln in August 2021.
Max Helm, the son of Melissa Helm and Thomas Helm and a college student from Lincoln, Nebraska, was subsequently expelled due to his actions, and he later relocated to Mexico.
Protest against Fiji fraternity
Not long after the unfortunate tragedy, numerous individuals, including several university students, protested against the Fiji fraternity and urged it to be shut down.
Approximately 280k people signed a petition protesting the racist and problematic fraternity.
The University of Nebraska in Lincoln was on probation for repeated regulation violations.
Due to reckless alcohol consumption, hazing, and unacceptable s*xual behavior, the fraternity was suspended for three years in 2017.
In October 2021, Chancellor Ronnie Green announced that the Fiji fraternity would dissolve after Max Helm s*xually abused a student.
As the investigation continues, we will take prompt, necessary action to protect Phi Gamma Delta members and visitors.
Chancellor Ronnie Green stated, ‘We are closing the fraternity home and suspending Fiji chapter operations because of the probation violation probe. This is the right thing to do for everyone concerned.’
The Republic of Fiji filed a lawsuit in February 2022.
The lawsuit named Chancellor Ronnie Green and Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards Andrea Barefield as defendants.
The Phi Gamma Delta fraternity filed a lawsuit against Green and Barefield in U.S. District Court on February 18, 2022.
The lawsuit claims the Fiji Plaintiffs’ constitutional rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of association, and the right to procedural due process.
These claims are based on statements made by Chancellor Green and actions taken by Director Barefield.
S*xual Assault and Murder by Max Helm
On the evening of August 24, 2021, Max Helm, a member of the Fiji fraternity, was involved in a disturbing incident.
He s*xually assaulted a 17-year-old girl during the first week of the Fall semester.
Both Helm and the girl attended a University of Nebraska celebration in Lincoln, with the girl being a college freshman.
Regrettably, Helm subjected the young girl to a traumatic experience, leaving her undressed and injured on the university grounds.
Upon learning about the s*xual assault, many students gathered at the fraternity party to voice their protest against the incident.
Following the assault, Helm forcibly ejected the 17-year-old victim from the premises, rendering her unconscious.
Fortunately, a passing woman came to her aid and transported her to the hospital.
The victim’s identity was rightly protected for privacy reasons.
At the hospital, the situation grew increasingly serious as the victim fought for her life.
Shockingly, Max Helm and his fellow Fiji fraternity brothers reportedly callously laughed and took pictures at the protest, displaying a complete lack of empathy.
This incident swiftly gained attention on the internet.
Users on platforms like Twitter and TikTok shared videos of the demonstrators, demanding accountability for Max Helm’s actions.
Furthermore, it emerged that Helm had previously faced accusations of s*xual misconduct, as authorities charged him with abusing a female victim in 2017.
Reportedly, members of the Fiji fraternity chanted offensive slogans such as “No means yes” and displayed signs in support of Donald Trump.
This raised concerns about their attitudes and behavior at a women’s rights march.
Where Is Max Helm Now?
The University of Nebraska at Lincoln suspended Max Helm after the event.
He faced no further legal action despite numerous calls for justice on behalf of the assault victim.
Multiple accounts claim that Max Helm and his family fled the country to avoid prosecution.
