The death of a teacher at a Jefferson County school occurred in the school’s parking lot on Wednesday morning, around 6:36 a.m., due to an incident.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Mark Ridgeway, a staff member, was conducting routine bus inspections prior to the morning trip when the bus rolled and struck him.

Ridgeway, 58, was a driver and instructor who had been employed at the school for over 20 years, as stated by Walter Gonsoulin.

“This is a tight-knit community as a whole, and a tight-knit faculty and staff as well. When you have a faculty member that passed away, it’s going to affect them. This is a time we all stick together as a family, we lean on each other.”

Superintendent Gonsoulin

Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin also mentioned that Mark Ridgeway was the only person injured in the collision, and no minors were present or wounded.

Principal Craig Kanaday also issued a statement, describing Ridgeway as an individual who had dedicated his entire life to helping others by serving as a driver, a church pastor, and a teacher at the school.

Before the incident, Ridgeway had recently stepped down from his position as a pastor. Principal Kanaday stated that Ridgeway was a generous and loyal individual to his religion, family, and school.

Ridgeway had been Kanaday’s colleague for more than 25 years, and his passing has left behind both cherished memories and a substantial void in all of his social circles.

Kanaday remarked that it serves as a reminder that life is short and precious.

The management of Mortimer Jordan school also conveyed their condolences for the loss of their staff member in a post on Facebook.

Classes at Mortimer Jordan school will continue on 26th Jan, and grief counselors will be available to assist anyone in need.
