The leaked phone call video involving Murdaugh has caused trouble for the convicted murderer and one of his defense lawyers. It was made by someone (specifically Alex Murdaugh) at Colleton County Jail to Jim Griffins, his defense attorney.

Although the recording was obtained through a public records request, it was made public by the ‘Hidden True Crime’ podcast. The leaked phone call was aired in one of the episodes of the mystery podcast.

Jim Griffin, the recipient of the phone call, openly criticized this violation of attorney-client privilege.

Following the episode, a social media user shared a clip of the call on Twitter and raised questions about whether it should remain confidential due to attorney-client confidentiality.

This sparked a heated response from Jim Griffin, who confirmed the authenticity of the call and expressed his frustration about its leak on Twitter.

The call begins with Jim mentioning that he needs to go back to bed and call his wife. Alex responds, “I know that, and I’m going to let you go. But the one thing I wanted to tell you. Please don’t think I’m being critical about that because I’m not. I don’t think you could have done a better job with him than you did today.”

‘Hidden True Crime’ is produced by a media organization led by husband-wife duo Dr. John Matthias and Lauren Matthias.

The platform produces podcasts and YouTube videos focused on true crime from the perspectives of ‘criminal psychology and journalism.’

Several news outlets approached Griffin for a comment, but he has been very uncooperative so far.

The call was released days after Murdaugh’s double murder case garnered widespread attention.

On March 2nd, the disgraced lawyer was charged with the murder of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul. He received a life sentence.

Maggie, Paul, and Murdaugh were present at the dog kennels on the family’s vast Moselle estate the night of June 7th, 2021.
