On 3 May 2007, Madeleine McCan, from Rothley, Leicestershire, was on holiday at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

The McCann parents were on vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, with their three children – Madeleine, almost four, and twins Sean and Amelie, two.

On 12 May, the McCann’s stated they can’t express the suffering and despondency they feel about their daughter. 

Portuguese police believe that Madeleine was kidnapped, but they hope she is still alive and in Portugal.

“I know about Maddie, I was close to the lodging at that point,” Brueckner said. “I was living nearby at that point. I’m not going to say much else. I’m not a stupid person.” 

Miftari also admitted that at the time, she feared her ex, who was possibly rough and controlling. She also recalled the moment she noticed his significant interest in child sexual shows. 

Miftari was only 17 years old when she first met Brueckner, then 36, at his shop where she was looking to buy some sweets. She said Brueckner caught her eye because he was charming and generous. He even called her a “lady.”
