Early Years Of Van Halen Siblings

Alex Van Halen was born in 1953, while his younger brother Eddie Van Halen was born in 1955. Both brothers hail from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Their father, a Dutch musician named Jan Van Halen, and their mother, Indonesian-born Indo Eugenia Van Beers, relocated their family to Pasadena, California in 1962.

During his youth, Eddie excelled in classical piano, winning the annual piano recital contest multiple times. While he struggled with sight reading, he gained popularity through his piano performances. In the 1960s, the brothers began creating music together, with Eddie on the drums and Alex playing the guitar.

Amidst their musical endeavors, there arose a competitive tension between the brothers, and Eddie once told Alex, “OK, you play drums and I’ll play your guitar.”

Transitioning through various band names, they settled on ‘Van Brothers’ in 1974. The band’s music albums received high praise from their fans.
