The Murder Case of Juan David Ortiz

The family was deeply affected when the autopsy report of Melissa Ramirez was presented in court. It detailed that she had been shot numerous times.

The trial proceeds to its second week, concerning the ex-Border Patrol agent who has been found guilty of being a serial killer.

In court, Juan admitted to murdering four women four years ago. Subsequently, the defense claimed that Juan had been coerced.

On Monday morning, the prosecutor summoned Webb County Medical Examiner Dr. Corrine Stern to the witness stand. Corrine has conducted 7,000 autopsies in her career, four of which were performed in September 2018.

The victim’s family observed as Corrine guided the jury through the autopsy report. The distressing details were particularly hard for Melissa Ramirez’s family to hear, leaving them shocked.

Corrine disclosed that there were bullet fragments found in the victim’s body, which had been fired from Ortiz’s firearm.

Corrine expounded on the conditions of Claudine Anne Luera, Melissa Ramirez, Griselda Alicia Hernandez Cantu, and Janelle Enriquez Ortiz.

She mentioned that Melissa was 29 years old at the time of her death and had been shot multiple times.

Stern read the autopsy report aloud, stating, “She suffered a gunshot entry wound on the right side of the mandible. The bullet’s trajectory was from right to left and downward.”

Texas Ranger EJ Salinas also took the stand to address questions related to the murder.

An unfortunate incident occurred during the court proceeding as one jury member fainted during the autopsy report presentation. Consequently, the court adjourned for the rest of the day.

All the victims were killed in Laredo, while Ortiz stands trial in San Antonio. The jurors watched a ten-hour video of Ortiz’s interrogation where he confessed to the killings.

It was confirmed that the crimes took place over a two-week period in 2018. The four women who perished were found to be sex workers.

In the interrogation video, Ortiz stated that he harbored resentment towards women, which led to their deaths.

Ortiz admitted, “I was like, you know what, these people, they’re not good people, so I convinced myself of that.”

Ortiz’s defense team and the interrogation team contended, with his defense team asserting that Ortiz had been pressured into confessing during the interrogation.

Ortiz’s attorney questioned the investigators about whether they disregarded the Fifth Amendment, which includes the right to remain silent. The next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 8:30.
