Who Is Justin Roiland?

Mark Justin Roiland, a renowned American voice actor, writer, animator, producer, and director, is best recognized as the co-creator of the well-loved Adult Swim series Rick and Morty, wherein he provides the voices for the main characters, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith.

He also co-created the Hulu show Solar Opposites, where he voices the lead character Korvo. Roiland has also contributed his voice to other popular shows such as Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Fish Hooks.

He is also the founder of his own animation studio, Justin Roiland’s Solo Vanity Card Productions, and a video game studio called Squanch Games.

Why was Justin Roiland removed by Adult Swim?

Adult Swim has parted ways with Justin Roiland after he faced allegations of domestic violence against a former partner.

Roiland, aged 42, has pleaded not guilty and will stand trial for the alleged incident that occurred in 2020. The official Rick and Morty Twitter account announced the news on Tuesday.

Rick and Morty, an animated sci-fi sitcom, will continue production despite Roiland’s departure.

The show’s co-creator Dan Harmon will now serve as the sole showrunner, and Roiland’s voice roles will be filled by other actors.

The staff and cast are currently working on season seven, originally set to premiere this year, as per the show’s official statement on Twitter. It remains unclear whether Roiland’s dismissal would cause any delays. Roiland will still be credited as the series co-creator.

Previous reports indicated that in 2018, Adult Swim ordered 70 episodes of Rick and Morty, ensuring the show’s continuation for a tenth season. Earlier this month, NBC News reported, citing a draft of the criminal complaint, that Roiland had been charged with domestic assault.

These allegations were later confirmed by DailyMail.com after reviewing court documents. On January 12, Roiland appeared in court in Orange County, California and entered a not-guilty plea to two felony charges of domestic violence with serious bodily harm and false imprisonment.

The initial criminal allegations against Roiland in May 2020 had not been reported at the time. The allegations stem from an incident that took place on January 19, 2020.

An individual named Jane Doe, who was in a relationship with Roiland, made these allegations.

The police report supporting Roiland’s detention, along with bodycam footage, investigative reports, and various other case records, remained undisclosed. After being arrested in August 2020, Roiland was released on a $50,000 bail.

He entered a not-guilty plea to both accusations during his hearing in October 2020, and the legal process has since continued without much media attention.
