Who Is Sandra Cleveland, Glenda Cleveland’s Daughter?

Sandra Cleveland is the offspring of Glenda Cleveland. They are residents near Jeffery Dahmer; Glenda Cleveland was the primary individual in the community who suspected that something was amiss with this house and boy.

She reached out multiple times to the police in the area regarding unusual activities taking place, but the authorities did not take her seriously. One might say it was due to prejudice, but their disregard led to a tragic outcome in history.

In the Netflix monster series on Jeffery Dahmer, they are both somewhat overlooked;  they are the central figure in his capture. Let’s examine Sandra Cleveland, Glenda Cleveland’s offspring and the significant role played in the monster story;

Who is Sandra Cleveland or Sandra Smith?

Glenda Cleveland, who resided next door to Jeffrey Dahmer, had been concerned about the former soldier’s conduct for several months.

According to the documentary Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is accessible on Netflix, Cleveland had excellent reason to suspect that something was amiss due to the sound of men screaming in distress, the noise of a tool at all hours of the night, and a foul odor.

On May 27, 1991, Cleveland contacted the police regarding Dahmer’s home after her offspring, Sandra Smith, and her niece, Nicole Childress, encountered a child bleeding, unclothed, and unable to communicate on the street.

Cleveland believed that Dahmer was accountable for the child’s condition. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the authorities found him in an alley while trying to escape from Dahmer.

Conversely, Dahmer convinced the police that the youth was 19 years old and that they were in a relationship. Dahmer informed the police that the youth had been drinking and that they had an argument before the incident.

Later, it was revealed that the youth was Konerak Sinthasomphone, who was only 14 years old and became Dahmer’s 13th victim.

A few days later, when Cleveland saw a photo of Konerak in a missing person alert published in the newspaper, she recognized that he was the young person Dahmer had claimed to be his partner. She attempted to contact the police again, but no one answered her call. She even attempted to reach out to the FBI, but received no response.

According to The Sun, five of Dahmer’s 17 murders, including that of Konerak, were committed after Cleveland began informing the police of her concerns. One of these murders occurred after Cleveland started contacting the police.

According to The Associated Press, the three officers Cleveland summoned in May 1991 were suspended without pay pending an internal investigation after Dahmer’s arrest and the discovery of Konerak’s remains. Dahmer had been charged with the murder of Konerak.

Niecy Nash’s View on her Role in the Series

In an interview with Netflix, Niecy Nash, who portrays Cleveland in the Series, expressed that Cleveland was also a victim of Jeffrey Dahmer and that her tale needed to be shared.

She stated, “When you hear the different incidents that occurred regarding Jeffrey Dahmer and his victims… Glenda was one of his victims as well, and her story has been told the least of these.” Additionally, she said, “It is a heavy responsibility to tell this story.”

In her words: “Glenda Cleveland was an exceptional and unique individual. If she persisted in her efforts to persuade someone to take action, then she deserved much more acknowledgment than a simple plaque hidden away in some social hall.

She deserved far more than for the police to stand in front of her and say, “Look what we did, look what we attempted to do,” and I want people to understand that we have all encountered a Glenda Cleveland in this lifetime, or will encounter one in the future, or have been one in the past. That is certain.”

Sandra Cleveland’s Reflections after her Mother’s Demise

On December 24, 2010, Glenda Cleveland died of natural causes. She had lived 56 years.

Her daughter Sandra Smith informed the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that after Dahmer’s arrest in 1991, Cleveland relocated to the Oxford Apartments, situated on the same block where Dahmer had resided. She remained there until 2009.

She was honored by Milwaukee’s Common Council and County Board, and Mayor John Norquist hailed her as a “model citizen” in his speech. Additionally, she received accolades from local women’s organizations and the Milwaukee Police Department.

Cleveland maintained a relationship with the Sinthasomphone family, going as far as attending the wedding of one of the boys.
