On May 15, 1992, Chalino performed at Salon Bugambilas in Culiacan. He accepted an offer to perform in his hometown for a fee of $10,000. Several months prior to agreeing to the offer, he had undergone major surgery.

His performance in Culiacan was a resounding success. During the show, he was handed a note that conveyed a grave message: “You must cease singing, or else we will end your life.” Given Chalino’s history, it was evident that he had already developed animosity with drug cartels.

Despite the warning note, Chalino continued with his performance at the event without any untoward incident. After the show, he departed the venue in the company of several women and his cousin.

Upon leaving the gathering, Chalino was intercepted by armed individuals in a Chevrolet entourage. A prolonged search for Sanchez ensued, and eventually, his lifeless body was discovered dumped in an irrigation canal near Los Laureles, Culiacan.

The circumstances surrounding his demise pointed toward the involvement of a few notorious cartels. The police reported that Chalino had been blindfolded and had rope marks on his wrists. Furthermore, he had sustained two gunshot wounds to the head.
