Christine McVie, whose bluesy vocals and keyboards helped create the distinctive sound of the influential rock band, Fleetwood Mac, passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness. She was 79.
The musician’s family announced her death on social media, stating that she died at the hospital “following a short illness,” surrounded by her family.
The British singer-songwriter was behind hits including Little Lies, Everywhere, Don’t Stop, Say You Love Me, and Songbird. Her warm voice and catchy melodies helped make Fleetwood Mac one of the most successful bands of the 1970s and ’80s.
In 1998, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with her bandmates. McVie retired from touring in 1998 but continued to record with Fleetwood Mac until 2014.

The flesh is weak but the mind is willing,” She spoke. “Being at home makes me very happy. I’m not sure if I want to go on tour again. It’s bloody difficult work. I’ll just say that we might and leave it at that.”
Who was Christine McVie?
Christine McVie was born on July 12, 1943, in Birmingham, England. She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970, taking over as the band’s initial keyboardist, Spencer Davis.
McVie composed or co-wrote some of the band’s most successful singles, including “Don’t Stop,” “You Make Loving Fun,” and “Everywhere.” She also served as the band’s lead vocalist on several tracks, including “Say You Love Me” and “Hold Me.”
In 1998, McVie retired from Fleetwood Mac and returned to her native England. Since then, she has occasionally made guest appearances with the band but has not officially rejoined.
