Errol Lindsey: How He Became First Victim Of Jeffrey Dahmer

Errol Lindsey is part of the terrifying narrative depicting Jeffrey Dahmer’s spree of terror. Dahmer collected body parts from later murders and was even known to consume human flesh, despite some of his earlier victims remaining undiscovered.

Jeffrey drilled holes in his victims’ skulls and poured acid into them to keep them in a vegetative state, enabling him to perpetuate his murderous desires. Shockingly, Errol Lindsey was the first casualty.

Here, we delve into further details about the grim killing;

What Occurred to Errol Lindsey?

Errol Lindsey, at the tender age of 19, succumbed to a tragic fate. At the time of his demise, he resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the United States. Those who knew him described him as a respectable and compassionate individual who took great pleasure in making new acquaintances and aiding those in need.

Errol had a typical circle of companions and held a deep bond with his family, especially his mother and sister.

According to reports, Errol was sent on an errand to have a key cut on the day of his murder. However, fate led him to cross paths with Jeffrey, who turned out to be his killer.

Encounter Takes Place

On April 7, 1991, Jeffrey was residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when he crossed paths with Errol Lindsey. Following their encounter, Jeffrey decided to escort Errol back to his apartment complex. Unlike most of Jeffrey’s victims, Errol was not homosexual and did not pique the interest of the serial killer in a sexual manner.

Tragic Turn in Friendship

Nevertheless, Jeffrey swiftly developed a bond, entrancing Errol with his words and inviting him for a drink, all in a spontaneous manner. Once inside the apartment, Jeffrey proceeded to poison him, meticulously using power tools to bore a hole into his skull.

After drilling the hole, Jeffrey left Errol for dead. Following this, he acquired hydrochloric acid and poured it into the cavity, rendering the victim in a vegetative state, where Errol Lindsey eventually met his demise.

Justifications by Jeffrey

When questioned about his actions later on, Jeffrey stated that his intention was merely to have these men remain with him and not abandon him. Conversely, he fantasized about having a completely subservient and compliant companion with no independent will of their own.

Jeffrey asserted that he believed he could effectively control such an individual without being concerned about their well-being, which he deemed as the ideal type of relationship to have with such a person.

However, Errol regained consciousness immediately after the unsuccessful drilling attempt.

It is said that upon awakening, he complained of a headache and requested water. However, Jeffrey drugged him again in response to the request. However, the serial killer opted not to take any chances this time and instead strangled the 19-year-old to death. Errol did not survive.

Preserving the Corpse

At a later time, Jeffrey decapitated Errol, cleaned his skull, and preserved it as part of his collection prior to proceeding to flay his body. According to some reports, Jeffrey intended to retain Errol’s skin in its entirety as part of his collection, but once it turned brittle, he deemed it necessary to dispose of it.

In addition, Errol’s flesh was dissolved in acid, while his bones were pulverized and discarded. Following a related development, Jeffrey was apprehended in July 1991, and shortly afterward, authorities identified Errol’s skull and verified the victim’s identity using dental records.

Errol Lindsey Family’s Response to Netflix Series

The documentary Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, available on Netflix, has garnered generally favorable reviews from critics. It has earned a fresh rating of 67 percent from Rotten Tomatoes, while Metacritic has awarded it an average score of 47 out of 100.

However, it has been claimed by Errol Lindsay’s family that the creators of the show, Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, did not seek permission to portray his life story in the series. They have vocally expressed their disapproval of the show on Twitter, using terms such as “retraumatizing” and “outrageous” to describe it.

Errol was merely 19 years old when he first encountered the serial killer Dahmer and fell victim as his 11th known casualty. His sister, Rita Isbell, gained notoriety for shouting at Dahmer during his trial for the crime.

Subsequently, a video drawing parallels between the portrayal on Netflix and the footage from the actual trial has gone viral.

Quoting a segment from the video, Eric, Errol’s cousin, conveyed the pain that his family endured upon being subjected to a rehash of these events.

He remarked, “I am not instructing anyone on what to watch, but I acknowledge that true crime journalism is currently trending.”

“However, my family vehemently opposes this show. The Isbells. It’s akin to reliving the trauma repeatedly, and for what purpose? How many television episodes, movies, or documentaries do we need?”

He added, “Recreating the scene of my cousin having an emotional breakdown in court in front of the man who tortured and murdered her brother is ASTOUNDING.”

In response to Eric’s allegations that Netflix reproduced Rita’s breakdown without the family’s consent, numerous individuals swiftly voiced their agreement.

One user chimed in, saying, “As someone interested in ‘true crime,’ I find this reprehensible.”

“Movies or documentaries should never be produced about real-life criminals or victims without the explicit consent of the victims’ families, and such consent should encompass every aspect featured in the production. One is all that is required.”

Another individual stated, “My heart goes out to you and your family.”

“I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to have the most humiliating moment of your life reenacted and broadcast for entertainment. I am truly sorry, and I hope that this tweet gains the attention it deserves.”
