Francisco Severo Torres, who was arrested on a United airline flight, has stimulated a discussion regarding the airline’s security protocols.

On Sunday, Francisco Severo Torres, 33, allegedly attempted to open the exit door of a United Airlines flight to Boston from Los Angeles, resulting in a scuffle with the flight attendants.

As per reports, Torres was confronted by the attendants after another flight attendant observed him near the door, suspecting him of tampering with it.

When questioned about the incident, Torres inquired if he had been captured on camera, following which he attempted to assault one of the flight attendants with a broken spoon.

The crew and other passengers effectively restrained him, and he was apprehended after the flight landed at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

A fellow passenger recorded the incident and captured Torres making threats to eliminate every person on the plane and resorting to aggressive behavior. He was heard shouting,

“So, where’s the Homeland Security with the gun? Because I’m waiting for them to point the gun at me, so I can demonstrate that I won’t succumb when I absorb every bullet in that clip into any part of my body they shoot it, and then I will eliminate every person on this plane!”

During the investigation, it was revealed that no passenger was harmed.

United Airlines issued a statement banning Torres from flying with them and reiterating their zero tolerance for any violence on their flights.

“Thanks to the prompt response of our crew and customers, one customer was restrained after posing a security threat on United flight 2609 from Los Angeles to Boston.”

The statement further read,

“We have zero tolerance for any kind of violence on our flights, and this customer will be prohibited from boarding United flights pending an inquiry. We are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.”

Torres made his initial court appearance in the US District Court on Monday and has been detained until his next appearance on Thursday.

Prosecutors have confirmed that Torres could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000 following his arrest.

According to authorities, Torres had filed a lawsuit against the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital in 2021, eventually dismissed in the federal court of Massachusetts.

In the lawsuit, Torres alleged that the intense spinal pain he suffered from a car accident in 2014 was misdiagnosed as a mental ailment.

He also portrayed himself as the most outstanding artist of all time and asserted to possess $50 billion and a permit to carry explosives and firearms for personal security. The court dismissed the case on state grounds.
