  • The school’s resource officer stated that they had “examined the posts and found them to be malicious in nature but did not contain any direct threats.”

Following claims of being threatened by her students on Instagram, a Frisco ISD teacher has resigned from her position.

An increasing number of educators are frustrated with students who misbehave without facing consequences, which is just one of several concerns they have.

Schools must take immediate action to address this issue before it escalates into a contentious cultural conflict.

With 20 years of teaching experience, including 11 years in the Frisco ISD, Kacie Smith discovered an Instagram account that was posting negative content about her during the previous semester; the account has since been deleted.

She did, however, provide screenshots displaying intense animosity, including threats to use rocket-propelled bombs. The actions mentioned in the screenshots violated the code of conduct for the Geneva Convention. Smith admitted to feeling fearful of the threat.

According to a police report, Smith promptly reported the incident, and Liberty High School principal Stacey Whaling notified the Frisco Police Department. However, it appears that no further action was taken on the case.

The Liberty School’s resource officer stated that they had “examined the posts and found them to be malicious in nature but did not contain any direct threats.” They also stated that they had been instructed not to discuss the matter publicly.

Sgt. Stephen Byrom from the police department also confirmed that the Instagram posts from the account did not contain any actual threats.

The Frisco ISD communications director confirmed that they thoroughly investigated the case and took it seriously, but also determined that the student had no means and intent to carry out the actions mentioned in the threats.

Officials believe that the students did not have access to military weapons and that the posts were a result of teenage angst. While the severity of the student’s actions may be questioned, it is important to note that such behavior toward faculty cannot be tolerated, and the accused student will be held accountable for their actions.

In a conversation with Dallas news, Smith stated that she had requested the school to remove the student from her class, but the principal denied her request. Feeling unsupported by the school in addressing the matter, Kacie Smith decided to resign from her position.

The district officials did not confirm the student’s suspension from the school for two days.

A Department of Education report shows a 56% increase in “disrespectful behavior towards teachers and staff” and a 48% rise in “classroom disruptions due to student conduct.”

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, approximately 70% of schools have reported an increase in the number of students seeking mental health services.
