Following the release of the new Netflix series “Dahmer,” which delves into the life of one of the most infamous serial killers in US history, Jeffrey Dahmer has become a trending topic on the internet.
Jeffrey Dahmer captured instant photographs of his victims while committing his crimes, making them a crucial part of the exhibition. Law enforcement officers discovered the photos hidden behind a drawer in Dahmer’s closet in 1991.
Now, users on the social media platform TikTok are seeking polaroid images to express their emotions, sparking criticism from others for engaging in this disturbing fad.
While TikTok removed some graphic videos, other videos showing users’ reactions to the images have gone viral.
One video with blurred images and a caption that stated, “TikTok removed the unedited one with 130K views,” was widely shared online. Individuals voiced their disapproval on Twitter over TikTokers taking part in this trend.
One person remarked, “I can’t fathom why individuals are boasting about not feeling sick after watching the Jeffrey Dahmer movie or seeing the actual polaroids.” Another person wrote, “I don’t comprehend why people are boasting about not feeling sick after viewing the real polaroids.” I don’t see the point in bragging about not getting sick after watching the movie or looking at the authentic polaroids.
It’s surprising that anyone wouldn’t feel queasy.
Raising an old argument, others brought attention to the fact that the victims were real people, not fictional characters in a Netflix show.
It seems that despite TikTok removing some videos containing violent content, videos of reactions are still doing well in terms of views. This explains why some creators are taking advantage of this trend despite the nature of the content they are sharing, as the reactions are garnering considerable attention.
Due to Dahmer’s actions, this is not the first instance where TikTokers have faced backlash. In September, uploading user-made versions of the show on the platform sparked significant opposition from other users.
