Sparks was assaulted and abandoned on January 4, 1974, while she was residing in the University District of Seattle and pursuing her studies in political science at the University of Washington.
‘The experience was horrific,’ she disclosed. ‘He fractured my skull, broke off a bedframe, and invaded my home.’
‘He probably used the same bedframe to assault my bladder and vagina. Sparks’ roommate took over 20 hours to discover that her bladder was completely ruptured. She thought I was still asleep… It was terrible how he found me,’ she shared.
The injuries she sustained resulted in irreversible brain damage, significant loss of eyesight and hearing.
‘I suffer from a constant ringing and roaring in my ears. I also endured seizures for a while, but I overcame them,’
she expressed.
Sparks stated that she initially desired to remain silent after the attack.
‘I wished for a secluded, independent life. Women like us, women who have been violated, raped, and survived, they keep their stories to themselves. I don’t understand why,’ she added, ‘We are encouraged to move ahead.’
Sparks’ name has been mentioned in prior publications and articles regarding Bundy’s offenses, but Wood informed ET that she was unaware of Sparks.
Various reports have surfaced over the years about her well-being and post-attack developments, but nothing has been validated.
