Mike Carroll Obituary: A Legacy of Courage, Adventure, & Service

The announcement of Mike Carroll’s passing was made public shortly after his demise. 

On June 15, 2023, Michael John Carroll departed at the age of 87. In 2022, he confronted substantial health challenges, which he valiantly conquered. 

Prior to his passing, Mike resided in Shirley, New York, for 50 years and was recognized as a part of a team at the Brookhaven National Laboratory involved in particle research.  

He also developed and tested electrical apparatus utilized in physics exploration, which captivated his interest. Michael was also deeply intrigued by gravitational radiation. 

Following his retirement from the laboratory, he was employed by a Swedish technology firm named Ericson. 

However, Michael cherished adventures throughout his lifetime. He relished deep-sea diving and even served as the lead diver on a vessel that explored for concealed treasures. 

He took pleasure in constructing and using hang gliders, as well as piloting aircraft. Mike fostered a fondness for motorcycles during his career and proudly participated in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade as a bagpiper.

In 1975, he commenced his service with the Brookhaven Fire Department.

He retired from the force in his mid-sixties but continued to serve as a fire policeman for a decade.

Mike contributed to the establishment of the Shirley Community Ambulance service and completed advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT) training. 

Michael devoted the majority of his time to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Jude Church and was a regular attendee of daily mass at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church.

The Roma Funeral Home in Shirley, NY, has disclosed information regarding the passing of Michael Carroll, which transpired on Thursday, June 15, 2023.

 The memorial for Mike Carroll has arranged two major ceremonies to commemorate and honor his life.

The visitation is the initial service, scheduled for June 21, 2023. The proceedings will commence at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. Those who wish to pay their respects can visit the Roma Funeral Home visitation at 539 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, New York. 

During this occasion, individuals can gather, pay their respects, and convey their condolences to the grieving family.

On June 22, 2023, the second service, a formal memorial, is set to take place. It will commence at 10:00 a.m. and will be held at St. Jude RC Church in Mastic Beach, New York (89 Overlook Dr). 

He also played a significant role in establishing the Shirley Community Ambulance service and completing advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT) training. 

The service intends to celebrate the life of Michael Carroll, offering an opportunity for loved ones to gather and honor his memory in a more formal setting.

His parents, sister Mary, and brother Hilary passed away before Michael did.
