Shawn Johnson was born to Doug and Teri Johnson on January 19, 1992, in Des Moines, Iowa, US. Doug, Shawn Johnson’s father, worked as a farmer and introduced his daughter to gymnastics at three years old.
In 2019, she left school to relocate to Los Angeles, California, with her mother with the plan of participating in Dancing with the Stars.
