“Dear Family and Friends, it is with a heavy heart we inform you of the passing of our beautiful Andrea Martin also known as ‘Annie.’ Andrea will always be remembered for her passion and dedication to her family and friends. Her impact will continue to be felt and heard for a lifetime.”

The statement also expressed gratitude in advance for everyone’s condolences, love, compassion, and understanding during that time.

The post also indicated that the family was limiting calls as they were in the process of finalizing arrangements. Once the arrangements are completed, they will provide further information. The post concluded with the words, “Forever a legend. April 14 – September 27.”

Ivan Matias, her longtime writing partner, also confirmed her passing in his Instagram story, where he shared a photo of Martin and wrote, “rest in paradise” to his childhood friend and songwriting partner, describing her as extraordinary.

Who Was Andrea Martin?

Martin was a producer and R&B singer-songwriter, born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 14, 1972. In 1990, she graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

At the start of her career, she served as a backing vocalist on numerous albums and later went on to write hit songs for R&B artists including Angie Stone, Toni Braxton, En Vogue, Monica, Leona Lewis, and SWV.

In 1998, her single “Let Me Return the Favor” reached No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 after the release of “The Best of Me.”

The acclaimed singer also penned several chart-topping songs in both the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as non-charting singles for RBD (Wanna Play), Paloma Faith (Trouble With My Baby), Jennifer Hudson (I Still Love You), and Nelly (Fly Away).
