Who Is Next To Marilyn Monroe? Is Her Crypt Being Sold?

As per the reports, it has been verified that Hugh Hefner was laid to rest alongside Marilyn Monroe. Last Thursday, Jane Dorian, the goddaughter of the late Jerry Herman, disclosed that their burial vault is being put up for sale, commencing at $2 million.

The location of their mausoleum is at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles. It’s worth noting that this park is the final resting place of several notable personalities including Dean Martin, Truman Capote, Natalie Wood, and Farrah Fawcett.

Originally, Herman acquired the crypt for $75,000 in 1997. At that time, he was residing in Los Angeles, fearing for his health after testing positive for HIV.

Dorian revealed to a source, “There’s Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner, then Jerry’s. He’s alongside the two most attractive individuals that ever lived.”

Herman’s goddaughter mentioned, “He wanted to ensure his final resting place met his high standards. It all comes down to the old saying: location, location, location.”

Herman began taking antiretroviral medication, which helped manage his condition. This allowed him to live to the age of 88 and pass away from natural causes.

Subsequently, he was moved to Miami and was eventually interred next to his mother in New Jersey. Hefner passed away in 2017. Before his demise, he contemplated his crypt, which he had purchased for $75,000 adjacent to Marilyn Monroe. Monroe’s demise occurred in 1962.

Monroe had previously graced the cover of the inaugural issue of Playboy. In 2009, Hefner told the Los Angeles Times that he would spend eternity beside Marilyn’s grave. He expressed, “The prospect of spending eternity next to Marilyn is too appealing to pass up.”

Another individual, Richard Poncher, had also bought the vault above Monroe. In 2009, he declared, “He said, ‘If I pass away and you don’t place me facing down over Marilyn, I’ll haunt you forever.’”

He continued, “I was right there, and [the undertaker] turned him over.” Elizabeth later listed the crypt on eBay, commencing at $500,000 due to financial hardships. Eventually, the vault was auctioned for $4.6 million. Reportedly, Poncher is still interred in the crypt.
